User account

User account is a tool to manage user login to DataSpiderServer and group which user belongs to.
About the concept of users and groups, refer to "User Management".

Functions provided by User account

User account provides following functions.
Description of Functions

User list User Lists all users.
  • Sorted by standard unicode character order.
Add new user Creates a new user.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
Modify user information The settings of users can be changed.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
Delete user Deletes user account.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
  • See "Deleting users" for any specification limitations imposed when deleting a user.
Change password Changes login user password.  
List groups Group Lists all groups.
  • Sorted by standard unicode character order.
New group Creates a new group.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
Modify group information Changes the settings of the group.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.
Deletes groups Deletes group.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.

List users

Description of items
Item name Description Remarks
User name Name of the user.  
Description Description of the user.  
Primary group The primary group the user belongs to.
  • Primary group is a group that is initially displayed in [Group] attribute of files and folders
Group Group to which the user belongs.
  • If the user belongs to two or more groups, each group is divided with a comma.

New user

This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
You can create a user by clicking [Add] button.

User name Enter the name of any user.
Initial password Enter the password when logging.
  • String length limit can be configured.
Re-enter initial password Re-enter password when logging.  
Primary group Specify the groups that created user belong to.
  • The default value is "users".
  • Primary group is a group that is initially displayed in [Group] attribute of files and folders.

Modify user information

This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
You can modify user information by clicking [Properties] button.

Item name Description Remarks
Primary group Change the user's primary group.
  • Primary group is a group that is initially displayed in [Group] attribute of files and folders.
User's description Enter a description of the user.
  • When updating the user, this value is required.
Change password Click [Details] button to view "Change password" and change a new password of the user.  
Initial settings of access permissions Click [Details] button to view "Initial settings of access permissions" and specify default permissions when users create files or directories.
  • [Read]
    File: Files can be referenced.
    Directory: Entries of the directory can be referenced.
  • [Write]
    File: Files can be written.
    Directory: Files or directories within this directory can be created, renamed, and deleted.
  • An access privilege determines to what extent a user, group, or others may operate on resources.

Change password

You can change login user password by clicking [Change password] button.

Current password Specify user's current password.  
New password Specify a new password for the user.  
Confirm new password Enter the new password again.  

Group list

Description of items
Item name Description Remarks
Name Name of the group.  
Description Description of the group.  
Date created Creation date time of the group.  
Date modified Updated date time of the group.  

Add new group

This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
You can create a group by clicking [Add] button.

Modify group information

This is administrative function and can only be performed by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.
You can modify group information by clicking [Properties] button.

Group user Click [Details] button to view "Change group user" and add or delete users who belong to the group.
  • This can be done by moving users from the [Non-group user] to the [Group user] arbitrarily.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.
Group description Change the description of the group.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by administrators.
Group owner Click [Details] button to view "Change owner of group" and change owners of the group.
  • Specify a user as the owner of the group by the checking the corresponding checkbox.
  • This is administrative function and can only be performed by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.
