Single byte code conversions by HULFT

Single byte code conversion includes the following three types:

  • Conversion between ASCII and EBCDIC

When HULFT carries out conversion between the Type-ASCII Code Set and the Type-EBCDIC Code Set, HULFT converts character code values between EBCDIC and ASCII.

When the code set of the transferred file is Shift-JIS or EUC-JP, you can define a conversion table.

  • Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC

In Code-set Conversion for Japanese, when HULFT carries out Code Conversion between two of the Type-EBCDIC Code Sets, HULFT can convert single byte codes (conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC).

  • Conversion between ASCII and ASCII

In Code-set Conversion for Japanese, if the Code Set for Transfer is different on the host on the sending side and on the host on the receiving side, HULFT converts half-width Katakana.

In single byte code conversion, you can select a type of EBCDIC to be used from the following types:

  • Code-set Conversion for Japanese

    • Katakana

    • Lowercase

    • ASCII

    • ASPEN

    • Japan (Latin) for IBM

    • Japan (Latin) Extended for IBM

    • NEC Katakana

    • Japan (Katakana) Extended for IBM

In addition, you can create three types of user-defined conversion tables.

  • Code-set Conversion for Chinese

You can select Simplified Chinese Extended.

Refer to Single byte codes in HULFT for details on single byte code conversion.

Note
  • In the following cases, HULFT does not carry out Code Conversion of character codes between EBCDIC and EBCDIC.

    • When all of the following conditions are met:

      • The host on the sending side runs HULFT for Mainframe

      • HULFT carries out the Work File Transfer

      • HULFT carries out sending-side conversion

    • When HULFT carries out Code-set Conversion for Chinese

  • You can carry out single byte code conversion for Simplified Chinese Extended only in HULFT Ver.8.1 or higher.

If the host on the sending side or the host on the receiving side runs HULFT lower than Ver.8.1, HULFT cannot carry out single byte code conversion.

HULFT provides the EBCDIC Code Set Conversion Template.
