User Accounts

User Accounts is a tool to manage user login to DataSpiderServer and group which user belongs to.
About the concept of users and groups, refer to "User Management".

Functions provided by User Accounts

User Accounts provides the following functions.
Description of Functions

User Accounts List all users and groups All Users and groups managed by the system are listed when User Accounts is launched.  
New user Creates a new user.
  • Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
Modify user information The settings of users can be changed.
  • Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
Delete User Deletes user account.
  • Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
Change User Password Changes user password.  
New Group Creates a new group.
  • Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
Modify group information Changes the settings of the group.
  • Can be operated only by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.
Delete Group Deletes group.
  • Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.

User Accounts

Description of items
Item name Description Remarks
User list User name Name of the user.  
Primary group The primary group the user belongs to.
  • Primary group is a group that is initially displayed in [Group] attribute of files and folders
Group Group to which the user belongs.
  • If the user belongs to two or more groups, each group is divided with a comma.
Group list Group name Name of the group.  
Date created The date and time the group was created.  
Date modified The date and time the group was last modified.  

New user

Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.

User name Enter the name of any user.
Initial password Enter the password when logging.
  • String length limit can be configured.
  • This item is displayed as [Password] on Studio for Web.
Re-enter initial password Re-enter password when logging.
  • This item is displayed as [Password (Repeat)] on Studio for Web.
Primary group Specify the groups that created user belong to.
  • The default value is "users".
  • Primary group is a group that is initially displayed in [Group] attribute of files and folders.
User Description Give a description of the user.
  • For Studio for Web only

Modify user information

Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
Any changes made to the user's settings become effective when the user logs in.
In order for the changes to become effective, user needs to be logged off from Studio and log in again.

Properties Edits the user information.
  • This item is displayed as [Edit] on Studio for Web.

Item name Description Remarks
Primary group Change the user's primary group.
  • Primary group is, for example, when you create file or folder, group which is initially shown in [Group] of property.
User's description Enter a description of the user.
  • When updating the user, this value is required.
Change password Change the password for the user.  
Initial settings of access permissions Change initial settings of access permissions of directory or file which are created by users.
  • [Read]
    File: Files can be referenced.
    Directory: Entries of the directory can be referenced.
  • [Write]
    File: Files can be written.
    Directory: Files or directories within this directory can be created, renamed, and deleted.
  • An access privilege determines to what extent a user, group, or others may operate on resources.
  • This item is displayed as [Initial File Permission Settings] on Studio for Web.
New Password Specify a new password for the user.
  • There is no restrictions on the length of the string specified.
  • For Studio for Web only
New Password (Repeat) Enter a new password for the user.
  • For Studio for Web only

Delete User

Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
See "Deleting users" for any specification limitations imposed when deleting a user.

New Group

Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.

Group name Enter the name of any group.
Description Provide a description of the group.  

Modify group information

Can be operated only by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.
Any changes made to the group's settings become effective when the user logs in.
In order for the changes to become effective, user needs to be logged off from Studio and log in again.

Group user Change the user group.
  • This can be done by moving users from the [Non-group user] to the [Group user] arbitrarily.
  • Can be operated only by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.
Group description Change the description of the group.
  • Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
Owner of group Change the owner of the group.
  • Specify a user as the owner of the group by the checking the corresponding checkbox.
  • Can be operated only by the users with administrative privileges and the owner of the group.

Delete Group

Can only be executed by users with administrator privileges.
See Deleting groups for any specification limitations imposed when deleting a group.
