How to Install DataMagic

Introduction

When you introduce DataMagic to your company's environment, of course, you can install the product by following the manual. However, many users want to install DataMagic and begin using it as quickly as possible.

Today, we'll show you a simple procedure that allows you to install DataMagic and begin using it right away.

Overview

DataMagic is a client/server software product composed of DataMagic Server for the host and DataMagic Manager for the client. However, it is also possible to install and use the software on a single computer.
When both the client and server are installed on the same computer, you don't need to worry about things like firewalls or host name resolution. This allows you to try out DataMagic easily.

The following is an overview of the process:
  -Step 1: Acquire installation module.
  -Step 2: Install DataMagic Server.
  -Step 3: Install DataMagic Manager.
  -Step 4: Connect DataMagic Server and DataMagic Manager.

Step 1: Acquire Installation Module

Note: If you already have the installation module, proceed to Step 2.

You can acquire installation module by one of the following methods:

Method 1 - If you have already purchased DataMagic

You can acquire installation module at the following myHULFT site:
http://my.hulft.com↗
After logging in, enter License registration / Authentication ID and then issue the Product Download / Key to acquire the installation module.
Note that you need the SP code, and an Authentication ID to use this method.

Method 2 - If you have not purchased DataMagic

Download the trial version from myHULFT site:
http://my.hulft.com↗
After logging in, click the menu of Trial version download, following the guide to download DataMagic trial version.

Step 2: Install DataMagic Server

Note: To install DataMagic Server, log in as a user with administrator permissions.
DataMagic Server uses a setup program for installation.

1. Select the language to be used for installation.

Execute the Setup.exe file in the Setup\Server folder on the installation module.
When you execute the file, a window opens that allows you to select the language to be used for installation.
Select English(United States), and then click the Next (N) button.

2. Start the setup program.

When the setup program starts, the following screen appears: Click the Next (N) button.

3. Enter the Serial number and Product key.

Enter the Serial number and Product key, and click the Next (N) button.

4. Select the Installation Type.

Select New installation , and then click the Next (N) button.
Note: The Installation Type window does not appear when you install the trial version.

5. Specify the Installation Location.

Click the Next (N) button.

6. Specify the Work Folders.

Click the Next (N) button.

7. Specify Data Format.

Select MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY, then click the Next (N) button.

8. Enter Service name.

Click the Next (N) button.

9. Register the Program name.

Click the Next (N) button.

10. Confirm installation.

Click the Next (N) button.

11. The installation is processed.

12. Finish setup.

Click the Finish button and the installation completes.

Installation of DataMagic Server is complete. Next, install DataMagic Manager.

Step 3: Install DataMagic Manager

Note: To install DataMagic Manager, log in as a user with administrator permissions.
DataMagic Manager uses a setup program for installation.

1. Select the language to be used for installation and to be displayed in program windows.

Execute the setup.exe file on the installation module. In Windows, the setup.exe file is in the folder Setup\Manager.
Select English(United States), and then click the Next (N) button.

2. Start the setup program.

Click the Next (N) button.

3. Agree to the License Agreement.

Read the License Agreement and select "I accept the terms of the license agreement". Then, click the Next (N) button.

4. Select the Installation Type.

Select New installation, and then click the Next (N) button.

5. Specify the Installation Location.

Click the Next (N) button.

6. Specify Data Format.

Select MM/DD/YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY, then click the Next (N) button.

7. Register the Program name.

Click the Next (N) button.

8. Confirm installation.

Click the Next (N) button.

9. The installation is processed.

10. Finish setup.

Click the Finish button, and the setup program ends.

Installation of DataMagic Manager is complete. Next, connect DataMagic Server and DataMagic Manager.

Step 4: Connect DataMagic Server and DataMagic Manager.

Note 1: Immediately after you install DataMagic Server, DataMagic service is stopped.
Note 2: Before beginning the following procedure, start the DataMagic service or restart the computer.

1. Start DataMagic Manager.

From the Start menu, select All Programs. Click HULFT Family, DataMagic Manager Ver. 3, and then DataMagic Manager.

When DataMagic Manager starts, a DataMagic Manager window, like the one below, is displayed.

2. Register DataMagic Server.

Click New button from above Host Management screen to add a Connection Destination.
A Management Host Information window, like the one below, is displayed.

Enter the following value for the management host information:

Field Name	Value
Host name	localhost

After you register the Host Information, click Connect button to begin the connection test.

If the test is successful, the following screen appears.

If the test fails, an error message is output. If the test fails, check the following:
  - Is DataMagic service running? If DataMagic service is stopped, start the service or restart the computer.
  - Is the host name specified correctly? If a host name other than localhost is specified, check your firewall.
  - Is port No. 36000 being used by another system?

3. Connect DataMagic Manager to DataMagic Server.

Double-click localhost to open a login window.

4. Log into DataMagic Manager.

Enter your User ID (admin) and Password, and click the Log In button.

5. The DataMagic Management screen opens.

If the connection is successful, the DataMagic Management screen will open.
