Restrictions on use of tape volumes
In this appendix, a tape data set is referred to as a 'tape volume' or 'tape media (MT).'
This appendix explains restrictions that apply when you use tape volumes for HULFT.
(1) Restrictions on the Send processing
When you specify to send a file from a tape volume, if you set one of the following settings, HULFT does not work correctly. Do not specify any of the following:
In the case of the Direct Transfer
-
Multicasting
-
Dynamic specification of a Send file
-
'C' (Clear), 'D' (Delete), or 'L' (Lock) for the Send File Mode (CLEAR)
In the case of the Work File Transfer
-
Use of the tape volume as a volume on which a work file is created
-
'O' (Omit) for the Capacity (CYL|TRK|OMIT) for work files, or omission of the field
-
'C' (Clear), 'D' (Delete), or 'L' (Lock) for the Send File Mode (CLEAR)
When you specify 'C' (Clear) for the Send File Mode (CLEAR), you can send a file from a tape volume only with the following specifications:
-
Dynamic specification of a Send file
-
Specification of 'B' for the Post-send Clear Mode (CLEARMODE) in the System Environment Settings
When you specify to send a file from a tape volume, make sure to set the following settings:
-
Volume Serial (VOL)
-
UNIT (UNIT)
In an SMS-managed environment, however, you can send a file from a tape volume without specifying the Volume Serial (VOL) and the UNIT (UNIT). To do so, you must use the following:
-
Dynamic specification
-
Work File Transfer
(2) Restrictions on the Receive processing
When you specify to receive a file on a tape volume, if you set one of the following settings, HULFT does not work correctly. Do not specify any of the following:
-
'M' (Multi) for the Multivolume (VOL-TYPE)
-
'RLSE' (Release) for the Unused Area (CYL|TRK)
-
'M' (Multiple Receive) for the Receive Mode (RCVTYPE)
-
'D' (DELETE) or 'R' (RESTORE) for the Error Handling (ABNORMAL)
-
'Y' (GDG) for the Catalog Operation (CATALOG)
-
'M' (MOD) for the Registration Mode (TRANSMODE)
-
The Storage Class (STORCLAS), the Management Class (MGMTCLAS), and the Data Class (DATACLAS)
-
Use of a Receive file that is on a volume that is mounted as PRIVATE without VOLUME specification
-
Use of a Receive file that is on a scratch mounted volume
When you specify to receive a file on a tape volume, make sure to set the following settings:
-
Volume Serial (VOL)
-
UNIT (UNIT)
(3) Restrictions on HULFT Management Console
When you send a file from a tape volume, if you use the Work File Transfer to execute the Send File on the HULFT Management Console, an error occurs and HULFT does not execute the Send File.
(4) Common restrictions
-
When you send a file from a tape medium (MT) to a DASD or from a tape medium (MT) to another tape medium (MT), you cannot specify 'S' (SND) for the MF-to-MF File Attrib (MFRCVORG).
-
HULFT does not support non-label tape media (MT).
-
HULFT uses authorized functions to transfer data from or to tape media (MT).
