HULFT7 Communication mode

In HULFT8 or higher, the communication methods for connecting to the remote host have changed.

Versions lower than HULFT8 do not support the functions and the communication methods that have been added in HULFT8 or higher. Refer to New Features and Compatibility Guide for details on the functions and the communication methods that have been added in HULFT8 or higher.

When connecting to a remote host, HULFT8 tries to connect using the enhanced communication method first. When it checks the response and determines that the remote host is lower than HULFT8, it connects to that host using a downward-compatible communication method.

Therefore, it takes more time to connect to a host of a version lower than HULFT8 than to connect to HULFT8.

Figure 2.26 Operation When Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode Is Specified as 'N' (No)

If the remote host is lower than HULFT8, you can avoid this delay by enabling the HULFT7 Communication mode, which uses a downward-compatible communication method.

To use HULFT7 Communication mode, specify 'Y' (Yes) for the Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode (HUL7MODE) in the Host Information for each host.

Specify the Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode as 'Y' (Yes) to connect using the downward-compatible communication method from the start, regardless of the remote host's version.

For details about the Host Information, refer to Operation Manual.

Figure 2.27 Operation When Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode Is Specified as 'Y' (Yes)

Note

If the remote host is HULFT8 or higher and you specify the Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode as 'Y' (Yes), the following functions of HULFT8 or higher are restricted:

  • Specification of an ID that is 9 bytes or more in the management information

If the ID of a record in the management information is 9 bytes or more, an error occurs.

Even if an error occurs, the Send Multiplex Level may still be consumed.

  • Long Message

Even when you specify a Long Message, it is not sent to remote hosts.

  • Output of remote host names to log records

Depending on the timing of the error, the correct remote host name may not be output to the log.

Affected Communication

The following kinds of communication are affected by the setting of the Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode in the Host Information:

  • Send processing

  • Resend processing

  • Send Request

  • Resend Request

  • Remote Job Execution request

  • Job Execution Result Notification
