Automatic switching between sending-side conversion and receiving-side conversion

When the version of HULFT on the sending-side host and the receiving-side host are both Ver.8.4 or higher, HULFT automatically switches the host where conversion is performed. Thus HULFT may execute code conversion on a host that is different from the setting for Code Conversion in the Send Management Information.

When sending-side conversion is switched to receiving-side conversion

When either of the following conditions is met and conversion is possible on the receiving-side host, even if you specify "Sending Side" for Code Conversion, conversion is executed on the receiving-side host:

  • The code set used on the sending-side host cannot be converted on that host.

  • The version of HULFT on the receiving-side host is higher than the version of HULFT on the sending-side host, and the version of HULFT on the sending-side host does not support the code set used on the receiving-side host. (This condition is valid only for instant transfer.)

For transfer that uses management information, in the lower version of HULFT on the sending-side host, you cannot specify the Code Set for Transfer for the receiving-side host in the Host Information. Therefore, HULFT on the sending-side host cannot find that the receiving-side host uses a code set that the sending-side host does not support, and HULFT on the sending-side host executes the code conversion according to the setting for Code Conversion.

When receiving-side conversion is switched to sending-side conversion

When either of the following conditions is met and conversion is possible on the sending-side host, even if you specify "Receiving Side" for Code Conversion, conversion is executed on the sending-side host:

  • The code set used on the receiving-side host cannot be converted on that host.

  • The version of HULFT on the sending-side host is higher than the version of HULFT on the receiving-side host, and the version of HULFT on the receiving-side host does not support the code set used on the sending-side host.

For the combinations of code sets that allow code conversion, refer to Available Code Conversion combinations.

= Remarks =
  • For Type-ASCII code sets, the above code sets refer to the Code Set for Transfer.

For Type-EBCDIC code sets, the above code sets refer to the combination of the Code Set for Transfer and the EBCDIC Set.

  • For instant transfer, specify the host on which code conversion is executed using the setting of Instant Transfer Code Converting Side in the System Environment Settings, not for Code Conversion in the Send Management Information.
