Setting of the hosts file for TCP/IP connections

The hosts file for TCP/IP connections can be defined by using the DNS or the TCP/IP hosts file, or by using HULFT IP Management file.

Using the DNS or the TCP/IP hosts file

Restrictions regarding use of the DNS or the TCP/IP hosts file are as follows:

  • HULFT must be stopped to explicitly allocate the TCPIP.DATA data set

= Remarks =
  • It is not necessary to stop HULFT to dynamically allocate the TCPIP.DATA data set

  • You can register host names of 9 bytes or more

Using HULFT IP Management file

Restrictions regarding use of HULFT IP Management file are as follows:

  • HULFT must be stopped to modify the IP Management file (HULFT.HOSTS.LOCAL)

  • You can register only host names up to 8 bytes

Although either method that you select is appropriate for your environment, the method of using the DNS or the TCP/IP hosts file is recommended.

To use the DNS or the TCP/IP hosts file, proceed to Definitions for use of the DNS or the TCP/IP hosts file.

To use HULFT IP Management file (HULFT.HOSTS.LOCAL), proceed to Creation of the IP Management file.
