HULFT-28949

If transferred data is not encrypted on the sending host, but a cipher key has been set for the data in the the Receive Management Information, the receive data may be garbled

Phenomenon

If transferred data is not encrypted on the sending host, but a cipher key has been set for the data in the the Receive Management Information, the receive data may be garbled.

Severity level

B: high

Affected versions

From Ver.8.4.0 to Ver.8.4.3

Modified version

Ver.10.2.0

Condition to reproduce

This phenomenon occurs when all of the following conditions are met:

Sending host

  • Either of the following conditions is met:

    • Cipher Key in the Send Management Information is not set

    • HULFT on the host does not support encryption

  • Either of the following conditions is met:

    • The version of HULFT is Ver.7.1.0 or higher but lower than Ver.8.0.0

    • Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode of the receiving host that is registered in the Host Information is enabled

Receiving host (local host)

  • Both of the following conditions are met:

    • HULFT on the host supports encryption

    • Cipher Key in the Receive Management Information is specified

Combination of sending host and receiving host (local host)

  • The combination of the encryption schemes on the sending host and the receiving host (local host) is one of the following:

    Sending host

    Receiving host (local host)

    No encryption

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

    C4S encryption

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

    AES encryption

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

Both C4S encryption and AES encryption

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

    No encryption

    C4S encryption

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

    C4S encryption

    AES encryption

    C4S encryption

    No encryption

    AES encryption

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

    AES encryption

    C4S encryption

    AES encryption

    No encryption

Both C4S encryption and AES encryption

    HULFT Encryption Scheme

Both C4S encryption and AES encryption
Alternative workaround

There are no alternate workarounds.

However, any of the following can serve as a workaround:

Sending host

  • Set Cipher Key in the Send Management Information

  • On HULFT Ver.8.0.0 or higher, disable Use HULFT7 Comm. Mode of the receiving host that is registered in the Host Information

Receiving host (local host)

  • Delete the value specified for Cipher Key in the Receive Management Information

Status description

Even if the above conditions are met, the receive data is not garbled.
