Conversion from Type-ASCII Code Set to Type-EBCDIC Code Set

When you convert the Type-ASCII Code Set to the Type-EBCDIC Code Set during file transfer, you can configure Shiftcode Mode in the Send Management Information on the host on the sending side to specify whether or not shift codes should be added.

In format transfer or multi format transfer, when the field type in the Format Information is Variable-length Characters (M), if the size of transfer data is larger than the Byte Count, conversion results may vary depending on the following:

  • Transfer Type

  • Setting of Code Conversion in the Send Management Information (sending-side conversion or receiving-side conversion)

For conversion to the Type-EBCDIC Code Set in text transfer, if the size of the transfer data exceeds the record length of the Receive file, conversion results may vary depending on the following:

  • Transfer Type

  • Setting of Code Conversion in the Send Management Information (sending-side conversion or receiving-side conversion)

For details on the Send Management Information, refer to the following for the host on the sending side.

HULFT10 for Windows Operation Manual : Send Management Information

HULFT10 for Linux/AIX Operation Manual : Send Management Information

Specification of 'Add' for Shiftcode Mode

When either of the following conditions is met and data contains double byte codes, HULFT adds shift codes to the data:

  • HULFT carries out text transfer

  • HULFT carries out format transfer or multi format transfer when the field type in the Format Information is Variable-length Characters (M)

In format transfer or multi format transfer, when the field type in the Format Information is Double-byte Graphic Characters (N), HULFT ignores the setting of Shiftcode Mode.

Note

In format transfer or multi format transfer, when the field type in the Format Information is Variable-length Characters (M), specify the data format and the Format Information appropriately to avoid data loss due to addition of shift codes.

For details, refer to Code Conversion rules for format transfers and for multi format transfers.

Specification of 'Do not add' for Shiftcode Mode

When either of the following conditions is met, even if data contains double byte codes, HULFT does not add shift codes to the data:

  • HULFT carries out text transfer

  • HULFT carries out format transfer or multi format transfer when the field type in the Format Information is Variable-length Characters (M)

In format transfer or multi format transfer, when the field type in the Format Information is Double-byte Graphic Characters (N), HULFT ignores the setting of Shiftcode Mode.
