Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC

This section describes Code Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC, first describing Code-set Conversion for Japanese, and then Code-set Conversion for Chinese.

Code-set Conversion for Japanese

In Code-set Conversion for Japanese, the setting value of Conversion between EBCDIC Codes in the System Environment Settings determines whether or not HULFT carries out Code Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC.

Refer to the following for the System Environment Settings:

HULFT10 for IBMi Administration Manual : Code Conversion Settings

HULFT10 for zOS Administration Manual : Explanation of each field

For details on the types of EBCDIC that HULFT can handle, refer to Table 1.8 Types of EBCDIC.

Figure 1.8 Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC (for Code-set Conversion for Japanese)

When the host on the sending side and the host on the receiving side use the same type of EBCDIC, HULFT does not carry out Code Conversion.

In Code Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC, you cannot use the EBCDIC user table function.

When HULFT converts codes between EBCDIC and EBCDIC, it carries out Code Conversion according to the setting of EBCDIC Set (CODESET) that you register in the appropriate types of the management information, as follows:

Note
  • When all the following conditions are met, HULFT does not carry out conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC, regardless of the setting of Conversion between EBCDIC Codes on the host on the sending side:

    • The host on the sending side runs HULFT for Mainframe

    • HULFT carries out the Work File Transfer

    • HULFT carries out sending-side conversion

  • You can use Japan (Katakana) Extended for IBMin HULFT Ver.7.3 or higher.

When you want to use Japan (Katakana) Extended for IBMin transfer to or from a host that runs HULFT lower than Ver.7.3, carry out Code Conversion on a host that runs HULFT Ver.7.3 or higher.

Code-set Conversion for Chinese

In Code-set Conversion for Chinese, HULFT does not carry out Code Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC, as there is only one type of EBCDIC (Simplified Chinese Extended).

Figure 1.9 Conversion between EBCDIC and EBCDIC (for Code-set Conversion for Chinese)

Note

You can use Simplified Chinese Extended in HULFT Ver.8.1 or higher.

Both the host on the sending side and the host on the receiving side must run HULFT Ver.8.1 or higher.

When you want to use Simplified Chinese Extended in a transfer to or from a host that runs HULFT for zOS, carry out Code Conversion on the host that runs HULFT other than HULFT for zOS.
