Representations of folders and directories

This manual collectively refers to both Windows folders and UNIX or Linux directories as folders. If you are using the UNIX or Linux version, read the term folder in this manual as directory.

The folder where the environment settings of DataMagic is stored. You specify the location of shared data storage folder during installation. The default folder is <DataMagic-installation-folder>\etc.

DMPATH

(for UNIX and Linux only)

The directory where the environment settings file of DataMagic is stored (<DataMagic-installation-directory>/etc).

DMEXEP

(for UNIX and Linux only)

The directory where the execution module of DataMagic is stored (<DataMagic-installation-directory>/bin).

This document describes how to install or uninstall DataMagic for Windows, and perform basic procedures.

Target audience and required knowledge

This document is intended for the following audiences:

  • Personnel who use DataMagic for the first time

  • Personnel who update the version, level, or revision of DataMagic

This document assumes that the audience has the knowledge required for system management of the Windows operating system.

Screen images in this document

  • All images contained in this manual are for Windows, except for images in which "UNIX" is included in the window title.

  • Make sure that you carefully read the descriptions in this manual because some of the settings for Windows and UNIX are different.

  • Screen images in this document may be somewhat different from the actual screens.

  • Unless otherwise specified, the Windows images contained in this manual are for Windows 10.

Symbols and Notations

Notation of product version information

Product version information for this product is expressed using the following format:

Example:

1) Version (1, 2, 3, ......)

The number increases when changes are made to the concept of the product, substantial improvements to functions are made, and new functions are added. This is referred to as 'Version Upgrade.'

2) Level (0, 1, 2, 3, ......)

The number increases when improvements to functions are made and new functions are added. This is referred to as 'Level Upgrade.'

3) Revision (0, 1, 2, 3, ......)

The number increases when small-scale improvements are made that do not involve any changes to the specifications. This is referred to as 'Revision Upgrade.'

4) Minor Revision (No letter, A, B, C, ......)

A letter is added when urgent improvements are made for the first time, and the letter changes in ascending alphabetical order when subsequent improvements are made. This is referred to as 'Minor Revision Upgrade.' In this document, explanation of 'Minor Revision Upgrade' is included in the explanation of 'Revision Upgrade.'

Conventions of notation

Brackets indicate that the enclosed items are optional.

{ }:

Braces indicate that the enclosed are multiple options, from which one option must be selected.

....:

Repeat symbol indicates options, which should be repeated if necessary. The symbol may follow single word or a group of options enclosed within either brackets or braces. The part enclosed within either brackets or braces in a format is regarded as one unit. Repeat the whole part in between the symbols on a unit basis.

|:

Vertical bar is used to set off options.

Italics:

Italics indicate a variable (a value that varies depending on the target or state).

Example: yyyymmdd

Type in comma (,) and equal sign (=) in the exact location as they are represented.

Commands or system management information settings

Uppercase characters:

Uppercase characters indicate that uppercase alphabets (A-Z) can be used.

Lowercase characters:

Lowercase characters indicate that lowercase alphabets (a-z) can be used.

Alphabets:

Alphabets indicate that both uppercase (A-Z) and lowercase (a-z) alphabets can be used.

Alphanumeric characters:

Alphanumeric characters indicate uppercase and lowercase alphabets (A-Z, a-z) as well as numeral (0-9) can be used.
