Operations to be performed by general users to run DataMagic Server
This section explains the procedural steps that general users must take to run the DataMagic service (in Windows) or the Request Acknowledge daemon (in UNIX) if the DataMagic Server grade is used.
If the DataMagic Desktop grade is used, these procedural steps do not need to be taken.
(1) When operating the DataMagic service (Windows) as the general user
For operating the DataMagic service by the general user, registering information of the general user is required. Starting and stopping the service of DataMagic can be performed only by the system administrator of the OS. Therefore, to operate the DataMagic service as the general user, registering information of the general user to This account: in the Log On tab in the DataMagic service by the administrator user is required in addition to the registration of the general user's information. The following procedure is performed only once after installing DataMagic.
1. A system administrator starts the DataMagic service.
2. Connecting to DataMagic from DataMagic Manager to register a general user of the OS in the User - Detailed Information screen.
When registering, specify OS authentication.
3. The system administrator stops the DataMagic service.
4. The system administrator opens the property of the DataMagic service, and specifies the information of the general user to This account: in the Log On tab.
5. The system administrator starts the DataMagic service.
Open the Windows Task Manager to check that the huledd.exe process is running as an ordinary user.
The OS user used to install DataMagic is automatically registered as a user of DataMagic during installation. Therefore, if you start the DataMagic service by using the user account that you used to install DataMagic, the steps 1 to 3 above are not necessary.
(2) When operating the Request Acknowledge daemon (UNIX) as the general user
For operating the Request Acknowledge daemon as the general user, registering information of the general user is required. Starting and stopping the Request Acknowledge daemon can be performed only by the system administrator of the OS. Therefore, registering information of the general user needs to be performed by the administrator user. The following procedure is performed only once after installing DataMagic.
1. Starting the Request Acknowledge daemon (huledd) as the root user.
2. Connecting to DataMagic from DataMagic Manager to register a general user of the OS in the User - Detailed Information screen.
When registering, specify OS authentication.
3. The root user stops the Request Acknowledge daemon.
4. The general user starts the Request Acknowledge daemon.
Use the ps command to check that the huledd process is running as an ordinary user.
The OS user used to install DataMagic is automatically registered as a user of DataMagic during installation. Therefore, if you start the Request Acknowledge daemon by using the user account that you used to install DataMagic, the steps 1 to 3 above are not necessary.
If you start the Request Acknowledge daemon as the general user, you cannot log in to DataMagic from DataMagic Manager by the user who uses the OS authentication. Use each user properly by registering the user who manages DataMagic as 'Product authentication', and the user who runs DataMagic as 'OS authentication'.
